Runaway Grandpa Well now at one time, I know I told this story before but I found the write up in the paper, about my Grandfather missing. She (my grandmother) told the news paper he had been in the hospital and he had a problem with his memory. I smile now as I think about it. His daughter my Aunt Lillian said, he had not been in the hospital and had no problem with his memory at all. He just walked away as I understand it and got him a girlfriend. Now you would have to know my Grand Dad to understand this at all. He was a very quiet man and kept to him self. I never heard him ever speak back to my Grand Mother, never heard him ever raise his voice, he just went on with his life. He worked very hard in the mines and after he retired he worked in the garden and at my Great Aunt Sarah’s in their fields helping bring in the crops. My Grand Mother was always more or less hiring him out to people. Now he never got paid for anything but she sent him everywhere to help other people. He went of his own free will though. He loved helping others. He was very strong. I think one day he just decided to leave and off he went. He found him a pretty woman and he went off and become a preacher, just going from church to church, well that was until the write up got out and someone reported him to my Grand Mother. He told he had amnesia and forgot he was married and had a home. She took him back , but it was no easy life for him, of course I think it was not an easy life before he left. My Granny was a hard worker and if you stayed around her you had to work. He just came back home with her and it was as if nothing had ever © by Harriett Dash March 2004
