The Bell Ringers

Once upon a time there was a wicked old witch that lived deep in the forest. She must have been one hundred years old and it had always been a quiet place to live.

One day she heard a noise, like bells ringing, she came outside and didn’t see anything so she went back in. She thought 'I must be hearing things, how dare anyone come near my house. I will cast a mean spell upon them.'

All the creatures in the forest were afraid of the wicked witch, that is why it was so quiet around her house, they were so afraid of her they hid when she came out and didn’t dare make a sound.

Well now there were some new creatures in the forest and they did not know the witch so they were not afraid and every time they moved bells would ring and happiness would go everywhere. They were Bell Fairies.

They were looking for a honey suckle bush and there was only one they could find, it was beside the wicked witch’s house.  They flew close to the house and then it happen. Just as they started to eat, the door flew open on the house. The wicked witch came running out and started to shout at them...but she couldn’t, they shook their little feet and she smiled at them and said ,"eat all you want, little fairies" and went back inside. They smiled and flew away. Well the witch was so mad, "how dare they cast a spell of happiness upon me" she said.  So she started to mix some things up in her big pot.  She got thorns and briars and stingers from a bee, she got poison berries and nuts that fell from a big oak tree. She put in some fly wings and butter cups with a bad taste, she didn’t want anything to go to waste. Now she was ready for when they come back.

She was standing over her pot and it was almost ready, she put the spell into a bag and hung it from the tree, she knew she could not do it when they were there because they would cast a happy spell upon her.

The bell fairies saw the bag. Oh, they thought the sweet witch has given them something good to eat so they burst open the bag and began to eat what was inside and they were really jumping around in mid air, they felt the sting, but they tasted the honey the bee stingers had on them, and the thorns were sweet and the poison berries were the kind they had looked everywhere for and the nuts were delicious, they were so thankful they decided to give the wicked witch a special present of bells. . As they flew away they left the bells in exchange for the food she had left for them. The witch was excited she knew they would never come back again and it was safe for her to go out to the big tree and see what they had put in it. She cackled as she opened the bag but it didn’t last long as the bells fell to the ground they wrapped around her feet and she couldn’t get them off, she began to laugh and jump up and down.  Poor old wicked witch, she was stuck now, all she could do was become a Bell Witch....and everywhere she went they all laughed but the nice thing was , she laughed with them. So in this story, "Beware" when you hear bells ringing, don’t run, it will do you no good. The bell fairies will find you and make you happy and if they leave you a present, don’t open it unless you want to be happy and laugh for the rest of your days.
